KIA June 24, 1944

More than 28,000 Allied servicemen were killed in the 3-month Battle of Normandy. Among the casualties was Harry Strahlendorf, a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was killed June 24, 1944, when his plane was shot down over Cherbourg, France.

Made available by his son, Harry Strahlendorf Jr., are the last letters he wrote home.

Square Strahlendorf - Octeville, Normandy

June 24, 1994

On the 50th Anniversary of his loss, June 24, 1994, Harry Strahlendorf was honored by the town of Octeville.

A ceremony was held on the site of his crash, where a beautiful little park, "Square Strahlendorf", was created, complete with American Maple trees.
